A Day in the Life at The Philadelphia Hockey Academy

A typical day at PHA is built around structure, accountability, and balance. Student athletes follow a consistent daily routine that allows them to progress academically while developing as athletes and individuals. The goal is to create independence while providing the daily support needed to succeed.

Students spend up to five hours each day focused on academics through Commonwealth Charter Academy, working alongside learning coaches who help manage pacing, organization, and accountability.

On ice development takes place across two daily sessions, combining self directed skill work with structured instruction designed to reinforce habits, decision making, and confidence. Goalies also receive weekly position specific training.

Each day includes a dedicated strength and conditioning session focused on athletic development, injury prevention, and long term physical growth.

This balanced structure mirrors the expectations student athletes will experience at the next level while ensuring they are supported throughout the process.

Service Learning

At the Philadelphia Hockey Academy, service learning is an important part of student athlete development. We believe growth happens not only through academics and athletics, but also through meaningful engagement with the community.

Students participate in service opportunities throughout the year that connect learning with real world experience. These experiences help student athletes develop empathy, leadership, and perspective while learning the value of contributing to something larger than themselves.

By introducing community involvement early, students begin building habits of responsibility, teamwork, and service that extend well beyond their time at PHA.

Goals

  • Provide opportunities for experiential learning that complement online academics.
  • Build awareness of community needs and social challenges.
  • Encourage students to take initiative and become active contributors within their communities.
  • Develop skills such as communication, collaboration, problem solving, and reflection.
  • Foster leadership through service based teamwork and shared responsibility.
